DETECTION SYSTEM FOR FUME HOODS |
A
system consists of the components necessary for continuous
monitoring of gaseous substances for 24 hours a day can be
incorporated into 'MODULAP' Fume Cupboard System.
- The
primary purpose for having a Gas Detection System is to
insure early 'WARNING' of the presence of either a
combustible or a toxic gas. Once the presence is known,
action can be taken to disperse the gas before it ignites
or overcomes occupants.

|
| 'MODULAP'
fume hood range which was established since 1983 has been proven
to operate more efficiently than similar unit of a more
traditional design. It's aerodynamically designed streamlined
angled entrance allows air to enter in smooth unbroken pattern,
permitting operation with greater safety and reduce risk of
frontal turbulence, of which it may result in a higher containment
of the fumes.
|
| GENERAL
FEATURES |
|
One piece moulded
chamber eliminates joints and provides for easy wash down and
decontamination. Liner with radiused corners to maintain a
turbulence free air flow pattern. |
|
The white colour
moulded chamber also assists in evenly illuminating the working
area and gives the operator a pleasant working environment. |
|
Access to service
fixture piping is concealed between the Inner and Outer walls, and
the removable Access Panels on both sides of the hood interior
make it possible to install additional service fixture for the
fume hood with least obstruction for future needs. |
|
The fluorescent
lighting fixture is mounted inside the moulded FRP casing at
exterior of the fume hood roof, and keeps away from the exhaust
air stream. The safety glass shield is provided with air-tight
silicon sealant to isolate the light fitting from the hood
interior. |

|
All the
Electrical services are mounted on the front Service Panels above
the work-top level. Hence the chances of spillage by liquid/regent
on the working top not any electrical Point which may cause
Electrical Short-circuited is virtually impossible. Furthermore,
all the electric PVC insulated cable-circuitry for the fume hood
is further protected by additional good quality &
chemical-resistant plastic conduit. |

|
A chemical resistant
Airfoil Panel is provided on top-front facial of the fume
hood insuring a constant sweep across the work surface of
efficient fume removal. |

|
An automatic air
by-pass grille is provided on top-front facial of the fume hood to
ensure that the face velocity is not extensive at small sash
opening, with fumes are adequately diluted, and the exhaust air
volume from the laboratory is relatively kept constant. |

|
The safety glass sash
window which is balanced by concealed counterweights on Vinyl
coated stainless steel ropes and guided by nylon ball bearing
pulleys can be sliding vertically with least effort of control at
any sash opening. |
| TECHNICAL
INFORMATION |
| Laboratory
fume hoods shall provide safe operation when properly installed
and connected to an exhaust system that provides the proper
exhaust air volume to permit the fume hood to operate at the
specified face velocity.
'MODULAP' fume cupboards when utilized with the recommended
extraction system conforms to the industrial standards for safe
velocities. The table shown below summarizes the recommended face
velocities for different laboratory conditions. |

OTHER CONFIGURATION
|
|
1. AUXILIARY-AIR FCS MODEL FUME HOOD
|
|
'MODULAP' General purpose Fume Hood with a
distribution box added on top of the fume hood can convert it into
an Auxiliary Air Models.
This model is often used in air-conditioned
laboratories. It can save both initial outlay and continued
operating costs. The Auxiliary Air mo Model is normally set to
take 50% of air from the laboratory. As a result, it provides an
even greater degree of efficiency and cost saving in operation.
Generally, architects estimated that every 200 cubic feet per
minute of cooled air exhausted through a fume hood requires an
extra tons of air-conditioning capacity.
For example, the standard 4-ft By-Pass model
operating at a face velocity of 100 fpm loses approximately 760
cubic feet of cooled air per minute, thus will need 3.8 tons of
extra air-conditioning.
The Auxiliary Air model, on the other hand,
will require only 50% as much extra air-conditioning capacity.
The result : A
saving of up to 50% on air conditioning expenses.
A separate motor-blower to draw the outside
air into a Distribution Box on the top of the Fume Hood is needed
for this Auxiliary Air Fume Hood.
|
|
2. VARIABLE AIR VOLUME (VAV) CONTROL
SYSTEM - THE ENERGY SAVER
|
|
Variable Speed Control circuitry served to
vary or set to the required face velocity of the fume cupboard
exhaust system is an Optional feature to the fume cupboard system.
The speed Controller's terminal is attached to the Sash Mechanism
system so as to achieve energy cost savings due to reduction in
extracted conditioned air in the laboratory. The amount of exhaust
air varies in proportion to the sash opening, while maintaining
almost constant face velocity regardless of sash position. This
configuration is generally not affected by temperature or humidity
changes. (This is possible only when the by-pass system has to be
concealed completely).
Our low cost VAV Control System has proof
popular in general applications with adjustable face velocity
flexibility.
|
|
3. EXPLOSION - PROOF FUME HOOD
|
|
'MODULAP' GENERAL PURPOSE Fume Hood can be
converted into Explosion - proof model consists of Stainless Steel
Inner Liner, Explosion - proof Lightings, Fittings and Electrical
Sockets. The electric cables are made of Fire Resistant Cables in
accordance with IEE Reg. 423-1 and 523-5 (Meet IEC 331 Flame
Test).
